On January 29, 30, and 31, the 13th Meeting of Young Researchers of the Catalan Countries took place at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) in Tarragona. The event, organised by the Catalan Society of Chemistry (SCQ), was attended by more than 140 people and provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among scholars.

During the event, several IDAEA researchers actively engaged, assuming key roles such as organising committee members, including Bernat Oró and Isabel Díez, and symposia moderators, such as Romà Tauler and Maria Dulsat. The program also featured a noteworthy plenary session delivered by Pablo Gago-Ferrero: Analytical tools for understanding the chemical exposome, alongside numerous doctoral students who presented compelling oral communications.

“This meeting, held every two years, serves as a gathering point for doctoral and postdoctoral students, who have the opportunity to conduct their presentations in Catalan, unlike other venues, and it always receives a very positive reception,” explains Rosa Maria Marcé, professor of analytical chemistry at URV and vice-president of the organizing committee.

This year, the meeting incorporated several innovations, such as the inclusion of flash communications, a presentation format lasting only four minutes with no opportunity for questions. Therefore, over these three days, 4 plenary lectures were held by researchers who were winners in previous editions of the SCQ research awards, along with 20 flash communications and 90 oral communications presented by young researchers. The meeting concluded with a flash quiz organized by the youth section of the SCQ, which rewarded the attendees for their attention during the presentations at the Meeting and the awards ceremony.
