The service specializes in the analysis of organic matter in water, i.e., Total Carbon (TC) in their particulate and dissolved fractions, a key parameter for water quality control (e.g., RD 3/2023). To this end, it is equipped with the Shimadzu TOC-L CSH analyzer, which allows the determination of total carbon (TC), inorganic carbon (IC) and non-purgeable organic carbon (NPOC) analysis (TC, TOC, TIC, DOC, DIC) in aqueous matrices following standardized protocols approved by the European Union Water Framework Directive. This analyzer enables the measurement of environmentally relevant concentrations (0 to 30,000 mg/L), with a detection limit as low as 4 µg/L, depending on whether low- or high-resolution method is used.
This service is available to researchers at IDAEA, other CSIC ICUs, research centers, universities, and public and private entities.
